Selections of Teams

Each season of sports at HMS and WJHS we offer a no cut sport (Fall- Cross Country and Soccer, Winter- Boys Wrestling, and Spring- Track and Field) for any student wishing to participate. All other sports could potentially have to make cuts depending on the number of athletes trying out. We want to make sure that all kids participating have an opportunity to play so this is the reason we have limited numbers for the other sports not listed above.

At WJHS we have had the ability, since the program started, to have multiple teams in a few sports (boys/girls basketball and the last few years girls volleyball). In an effort to have all teams be competitive in their leagues they participate in we do not select true “A” and “B” teams. Since the teams play in different conferences and don’t play against each other we have found this has provided the kids with the best opportunity to improve, compete, and have fun. Typically the Blue Team will select first filling out about half their roster. Then White Team will select half their roster and to complete the process, the Blue Team will fill out the rest of their team followed by the White Team filling out the rest of their roster. This has provided the kids over the years with some great athletic memories at WJHS and we hope to keep making more.
