Administrators' Welcome

WJHS From the Administration

Administrators' Welcome Message

Kelly Jackson
Administrator for 5-8 Education

Welcome to an exciting new year at Wilmette Junior High! We at WJHS take so much pride in the academic and extra-curricular opportunities that abound for our seventh and eighth grade students. Through innovative programming and the partnership we have among our families, students, and staff, we are confident that your years at WJHS will be some of your best in District 39!

The academic experience at WJHS is one of high expectations and 21st century learning. Our students demonstrate behaviors that promote learning throughout their day by persevering, listening actively, thinking flexibly, and taking responsible risks. Achievement is important in core subject areas such as reading, math, writing, social studies, and science, as well as in areas such as world language, creative arts, and physical education. Our teachers work to challenge each and every child, while making sure to have a little fun too!

This school year, we are excited for the wide array of experiences in which you will have an opportunity to participate. We have restructured our Creative Arts program to allow more opportunities for students to explore their interests in digital media, technology applications and coding, and music. New classes, and more choice will allow more students to have time in their day to find a niche and explore their own individual pathway.

We are so thankful to our WJHS PTO and District 39 Educational Foundation both partner with us to ensure each child at WJHS has an enriching experience during their two years here. Students participate in exciting field trips, have opportunities to hear from inspiring speakers, and can take advantage of flexible learning environments that help support their continued growth as students.

We are going to have an awesome year! #weareWOLVES

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! I am excited to serve the Wilmette Junior High School community as the 7th Grade Level Administrator. I view the chance to work with the students, parents and staff of the Wilmette Public Schools community as a dream opportunity. Together we will work to ensure that our wonderful students experience a great transition from Highcrest to WJHS.

I have spent my entire career, both as a teacher and an administrator, in the northern suburbs of Chicago. After my undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, I first worked as a junior high Social Studies teacher in Lake Forest before moving on to Loyola Academy where I served as a Social Studies teacher and then department chair. I have earned a master’s degree in education from John Carroll University and my certification in educational administration from DePaul University.

I believe in an open door policy as it pertains to communication and support. Please know I look forward to working collaboratively with you to ensure the success of your child. As your main administrative contact for all matters relating to seventh grade, I encourage you to reach out whenever you have questions or concerns. I am confident that your child will find his or her place here at WJHS.

It will be a great year at WJHS! Go Wolves!

8th Grade Assistant Principal
Welcome back eighth grade students and parents! I am thrilled to begin my fifth year as the Eighth Grade Level Administrator at WJHS. I look forward to continued success with our exceptional staff and parent community. Together we will ensure that our treasured students experience a strong final year with Wilmette Public Schools.

I grew up in Naperville, Illinois and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Southern Illinois University. After I had worked in the investment business for three years, I decided to change careers and earned a master’s degree in education from DePaul University. During my 12 years as a sixth grade classroom teacher at Highcrest Middle School, I taught reading, social studies, math, and science. Before joining WJHS, I completed a second master’s degree in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University.

As our students prepare to graduate from District 39, I will support the successful programs we have in place and continue to develop lasting relationships with the students, staff, and parents at WJHS. Go Wolves!
